The University of British Columbia has ranked 10th in the world and first in Canada in the Business Administration category of the influential Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).
Also known as the Shanghai Ranking, the ARWU is one of the most widely-observed university measures, alongside the Times Higher Education and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) university rankings.
The latest ARWU Global Ranking of Academic Subjects involved a survey of more than 500 top global universities in 52 subject areas. Each subject was evaluated on five different indicators: the number of papers authored by an institution in an academic subject, the number of staff who have won significant awards, the percentage of internationally-collaborated papers, the number of papers published in top journals and the average impact of papers authored by an institution.
The ARWU ranking further reinforces the strength of UBC’s individual programs on a global scale; in March 2017, QS ranked UBC Sauder as a top 20 university in North America for Accounting and Finance as well as Business and Management. In addition, the Times Higher Education World University Ranking for 2016-2017 ranked UBC as the top university in Canada for Business and Economics, and 11th in the world for Accounting and Finance.
