Scholarships, Awards and Financial Assistance

The UBC Sauder School of Business is pleased to offer a number of financial aid, support and assistance options available to both domestic and international UBC MBA students. We encourage you to thoroughly research all options available to you.


UBC MBA Scholarship & Awards

Each year, the UBC Sauder School of Business awards entrance scholarships to 25-40% of the class, taking a merit-based holistic view of what each talented candidate brings into the program. Applicants are automatically considered for every applicable scholarship upon submission, and are assessed on a number of factors, including (but not limited to) work experience, academic achievement, business drive, application essays.

We strongly encourage you to submit your UBC MBA application early in order to be considered for our entrance scholarship opportunities.

Offered to a full or part-time female student. Preference is given to a candidate with financial need with demonstrated leadership in employment/community.

Awarded to a Canadian First Nations student in Commerce & Business Administration with preference for a graduate level student.

Hoegg Family MBA Scholarship
Awarded by the Hoegg Family to a top female Canadian student and to a top female international student entering the Masters of Business Administration program.  The two recipients of the scholarship will be selected based on academic merit and exceptional leadership skills.

Schulich Fellowship for Entrepreneurship
Awarded based on entrepreneurial achievement or potential. Recipients who demonstrate leadership, initiative and innovation will receive particular consideration.

Awarded to an outstanding student entering the MBA program and pursuing the Product & Service Management Career Track. The award is named in honour of Professor Fred Siller.

Awarded by the Sales and Marketing Executives of Vancouver to an outstanding student pursuing the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Career Track.  The recipient will have demonstrated leadership and innovation in their work experience and application.

Loan Programs

The following institutions have offered to provide financing and assistance to eligible candidates enrolled in the MBA program. Loans or Lines of Credit may provide students with the financial assistance to help with tuition, books, personal living expenses, as well as everyday banking needs. Lifelong Learning Plan

The Lifelong Learning Plan is a Government of Canada initiative that allows individuals to use RRSP savings towards the cost of their education. Information on this program is available from Canada Customs & Revenue Agency.

Summer Internships

During the months of June, July and August, UBC MBA students are required to participate in an 8 - 16 week internship or complete an industry project. In 2014, 95% of MBA students acquired an internship. Paid internships average from $3500 to $5000 CAD per month.

Teaching Assistants/Research Assistants

MBA students do not normally assume the roles of Teaching or Research Assistants. These roles are usually occupied by MSc and PhD students in the Sauder School of Business.

Part-Time Work Opportunities

UBC MBA students are not encouraged to work part-time during the program owing to the large time commitment required for classes, group work and individual study. Some students continue to work part-time for their internship company during the final fall of the program.
