Sandbox Technologies (Limited Support)
The following new online tools are available for experimentation and implementation, with limited support. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on these tools. If you feel strongly about the usage of any of these tools, please encourage others to also experiment so that if the demand is high enough, we will strive to have these technologies integrated into our fully supported Service Catalogue.
Badgr is an open source tool for recognizing and tracking achievements, currently in pilot phase at UBC.
- Canvas API
Custom tools to manage Canvas via scripting. For more information, please visit capico.ubc.ca.
Crowdmark is an online collaborative grading platform that enables educators to evaluate student work more effectively. See Learning Technology Hub resources for more information.
- Google Suite:
Google Docs, Google Forms and Google Spreadsheets are collaborative tools that can be used in the classroom with a FIPPA opt-in disclaimer (see Sample FIPPA Consent Form).
Gradescope enables instructors to grade paper-based assignments online, currently in pilot phase at UBC.
- MS Office 365
A suite of familiar tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote (see https://www.office.com/ for more information).
OnTask is a system that assesses student participation and delivers student feedback regarding it (see https://www.ontasklearning.org/ for more information).
NVivo is one of the leading computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS) packages, and is now available for both PC and Mac operating systems. UBC IT covers the cost of NVivo software for faculty and staff at UBC (see UBC IT website for details).
PeerWise is an online repository of multiple-choice questions that are created, answered, rated and discussed by students. UBC is a partner and is registered as a school.

Proctorio is an online application and service that offers automated remote proctoring so students can take exams from anywhere. Each student's behavior is monitored by recording video, audio, and/or screen activity during the exam to try to ensure exam integrity. See LT Hub info for more details.
- Respondus LockDown Browser
Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment (Quizzes tool) within the Canvas learning management system. For more information see the LT Hub info page.
Sli.do is an audience interaction platform for meetings and events. It allows organisers to crowdsource top questions and get instant feedback via live polls.
Snagit allows you to easily capture screenshots or screen captures (screen recordings) in a user friendly, easily shareable way. Snagit is available UBC-wide at no cost.
